What is Medicare?
Medicare is a national health insurance program in the United States, begun in 1965 under the Social Security Administration and now administered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. It is available in several parts:
Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance)
Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care.
Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance)
Part B covers certain doctors’ services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services.
Medicare Part D (Percription Drug Coverage)
Part D helps cover the cost of prescription drugs (including many recommended shots or vaccines).
Medicare Supplement
Medicare Supplement is offered by private Insurance companies that can help cover most of the gaps in original Medicare. Gap coverage depends on the plan chosen.
Medicare Advantage Plans /Part C
Medicare Advantage plans create an alternative to Original Medicare. Medicare Advantage Plans offer value that Original Medicare doesn’t. Medicare Advantage Plans provide all of your Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and B (Medical Insurance) coverage. Medicare Advantage Plans are sometimes referred to as Medicare Part C or MA Plans. Most Medicare Advantage Plans include Part D (prescription drug) coverage and many Advantage Plans offer extra coverage for things like:
- Vision
- Hearing
- Dental
- Wellness programs
